Geopark Earth Science Events

10th October - 18th October
In conjunction with the Highland Archaeology Festival, the North West Highlands Geopark will host a series of Earth Science Cafes and Events in Ullapool, Achiltibuie, Lochinver, Kinlochbervie and Tongue. For further details visit

Saturday 10th: 12 Noon @ The Ceilidh Place bunkhouse, Ullapool. Lunch time talk from Dr Hannah Mathers on How glaciers have affected the landscape around Ullapool. Tea and Coffee available for a small fee then we will head over the road to the Ceilidh Place cafe for lunch, all welcome to join.

Monday 12th: 5pm @ The Piping School Cafe, Achiltibuie. Mike Goodwin “What if we could X-ray the Earth? Tales of exploration, geology and physics.”

Tuesday 13th: 12 Noon @ the Ceilidh House, Kinlochbervie. Mike Goodwin “What if we could X-ray the Earth? Tales of exploration, geology and physics.”

Wednesday 14th: 11am Georamble @ Knockan Crag NNR exploring the geological story of the Northern Hemisphere

Thursday 15th: 12 Noon talk @ Lochinver Mission. Mountaineering Instructor Tim Hamlet explains why the Geology of North West Highlands makes the area so attractive to climbers and shares some of his adventures including climbing the Old Man of Stoer

Friday 16th: 2pm Georamble to an ancient wheel house at Laide on the side of Loch Eriboll. Find out about the Iron Age landscape and how the geology influences architecture and way of life.

Saturday 17th: Coigach Half Marathon – not strictly Earth Science but happening in one of the most stunning locations in the world for a half marathon!
