Often referred to as one of the last truly wild places in Europe, Assynt has a unique assemblage of habitats, wildlife & flora. From the wild Atlantic coastline, to the tops of the Munros, there are ancient woodlands, hidden river valleys, boggy moorland, hundreds of lochs & lochans and rocky montains. The Assynt Field Club have prepared an excellent website that details the great variety of flora and fauna which have been recorded in the parish. The Highland Council Countryside Rangers (based in the Assynt Visitor Centre in Lochinver) operate a varied programme of guided walks throughout the season.
