Dwelling of Dreams
“Aros nan Aisling” is 9 miles NW of Lochinver, situated high on the Stoer Peninsular overlooking the Minch, a mile and a half from Stoer Head Lighthouse. The Hebridean Islands of Lewis and Harris and the western end of Skye are sometimes there and sometimes not whilst the mountains of Assynt stand proudly individual and ever-present. Climb the hill at the back of the house and this stunning panorama widens to include the extreme northwest coast of Scotland, up past Handa Island and on to the NW tip at Cape Wrath.
The well-equipped, 4 bedroomed house, completed in 2013, is based on a traditional Hebridean longhouse but built with modern architectural thinking, materials and technology enabling the most to be made of the ocean and mountain views, sunshine, light and interior space, and also with the disabled visitor in mind. There are 2 Wet Rooms downstairs, one En-suite, and a bathroom upstairs. A large Dining/Sitting/Kitchen space downstairs and a cosy balcony “Snug” upstairs c/w with desk and Broadband. A Utility room and wind lobby with good facilities for washing and drying clothes and equipment to help guests cope with the more inclement weather in these northern latitudes.
There is a large fenced natural garden which incorporates the ruins of a bygone age. Leave by the back gate and walk to the “Top of the World”, fish Loch Cul Fraioch, walk on to the Old Man of Stoer or head to the beach and jetty at Culkein Stoer and along the cliffs to Clashnessie Beach and Bay where the Minke Whales have been recently spotted.
Leave by the front gate and head for the coastal path which can take you either to Balchladiach Bay and beach or to Raffin beach and Stoer Head lighthouse…….. but be on the look-out for a small pod of Orca that has begun to run up the coast, dolphins, seals or basking sharks.
