Guided Story Walks

Explore the low-level landscape of Assynt with Lochinver based award-winning storyteller, folklorist & poet, Griogair MacAlleinThese walks, visiting old crofting settlements, peat roads, rivers and woods are often overlooked and underappreciated and suitable for all degrees of experience and abilities. Families always welcome.

Discover what stories lie beneath the stones? Hiding in the bracken? Waiting on the riverbanks? Lurking in dark lochans? In the corners of old croft houses? Also, find out about how the environment shaped the beliefs and folklore of past generations. Learn to use bushcraft to create shelters and visual art and to understand the ‘Traveller’s signs of the ‘old ways’.

Each walk is structured to meet the needs and interest of the group, and/or individuals.

Griogair also officiates and assists in organizing ‘Hand Fasting’ ceremonies – the Celtic tradition of binding a couple together in partnership for ‘a year and a day’.

In-home storytelling and after dinner speaking can also be arranged.

Griogair is an experienced mountaineer, ex-member of the Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team and qualified in outdoor first aid [BASP cert].
